Benzyl benzoate is the ester of benzyl alcohol and benzoic acid, with the formula C6H5CH2O2CC6H5. This easily prepared compound has a variety of uses.
This colourless liquid is formally the condensation product of benzoic acid and benzyl alcohol.
Benzyl benzoate, as a topical solution, may be used as an ant parasitic insecticide to kill the mites responsible for the skin condition scabies. Benzyl Benzoate is believed to be absorbed by the lice and mites and destroy them by acting on their nervous system.
It has other uses:
a fixative in fragrances to
improve the stability and other characteristics of the main ingredients
a food additive in artificial
flavors.
a plasticizer in cellulose and
other polymers
a solvent for various chemical
reactions
a treatment for sweet itch in
horses.

plenty of water for 10 minutes at least. Contact a physician if symptoms

SKIN CONTACT: Wash thoroughly with
soap and water; flush with plenty of water. Take off spoilt clothes. Contact
physician if symptoms persist.
INGESTION: ----- Wash the mouth with
water; seek medical advice immediately.
INHALATION: --- Remove from exposure
site to fresh air and keep at rest. Obtain medical advice.

inert, non-combustible, inorganic absorbent material, or sweep up, and
